NEW HIRES or QUALIFYING LIFE EVENTS

You have 31 days from your hire date or qualifying life event to process your benefits enrollment.

Outside of the annual Open Enrollment period, you cannot add, drop, or change your election unless you experience an eligible IRS Section 125 "Qualified Status Change" or HIPAA Special Enrollment event.  You must notify the District's Benefits Office within 31 days of the event.  Failure to do so will result in a forfeiture of COBRA rights, responsibility for any premium contributions and forfeit your right to enroll in the District's plans until the next open enrollment period each May.  The following are qualifying event examples:

  • Return from an unpaid leave of absence or significant FTE change
  • Marriage, Registered Domestic Partnership, Divorce or Legal Separation
  • Birth, Adoption, Permanent Legal Guardianship or Death
  • Loss or Gain of Coverage for you and/or your dependents

CASH IN LIEU-ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION REQUIRED

Effective September 1, 2022, the cash in lieu benefit is no longer available for employees hired on or after September 1, 2022.  Existing employees receiving the benefit will be allowed to continue if they re-certify annually or until the employee elects to terminate their enrollment or has any separation in service.   CSEA 10.11.5.1    FCEA 16.3
