CSEA & FCUSD Joint Negotiations Update: May 2018

Bargaining team members from FCUSD and the California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter #528, which represents about 1,000 classified (non-teaching) positions throughout the District, met for a regularly scheduled bargaining session on May 10, 2018.

Below is a short recap of major items covered during the collaborative gathering:

New positions update for 18-19: The team discussed new positions being added to the bargaining unit for the 2018-19 school year. These included: an additional occupational therapist, a behavior specialist, a behavior support aide, nine para-educators to support moderate/severe classrooms, an employee benefit specialist, an electrician, and the addition of one hour for health assistants for all 20 elementary schools. The team also discussed the creation of yard supervisor positions for elementary schools.

Shoes for Crews: In conjunction with Shoes for Crews and our Schools Insurance Authority, we will be providing slip-resistant shoes for eight school site custodians in a pilot. About 45 custodians are eligible to benefit from this program.

Benefits: The teams discussed the upcoming benefits open enrollment program. The open enrollment fares will be held May 16 and May 22. Also, we will be providing high deductible health plan and health savings account educational meetings on May 15 and May 22.

FCUSD counter proposal: The bargaining teams discussed the FCUSD counter proposal on articles and topics of mutual consent. The team decided to reconvene in July to work further on developing and finalizing the tentative agreement addressing specific contract articles.

BOOST and Summer School: The BOOST elementary summer school will be offered at three sites on the Folsom side of the District and it eight sites on the Rancho Cordova side of the district. Middle school will be offering programs on three sites: Mitchell, Mills, and will probably combine Folsom and Sutter middle schools on one site, to be determined.

Yard supervisor hiring fair: on July 23 and July 24 FCUSD will be hosting a yard supervisor hiring fair. This will be an opportunity elementary schools to staff all of the yard supervisor positions.

Behavior specialist: The negotiating teams discussed behavior specialist to the CSEA bargaining unit. At this point, both teams are working collaboratively to make this an agenda item for the June 7 board meeting.
