Mrs. Formigli's Kindergarten

two students with chicks

In the Kindergarten NGSS standards we learn about the interdependent relationship between animals, plants, and their environment.  Our class learned about the Chick Life Cycle, and we discussed what Chicks, have (beak, feathers, lungs, skeleton), can do (walk, peck, lay eggs) and are (birds, mammals, animals, omnivores).  I placed eggs in an incubator, and we waited 21 days for the chicks to hatch.  The class got to see a baby chick coming out of their egg.  After the chicks hatched, I transferred the chicks to a brooder and the students got to hold the chick.  The class is having fun but also are teaching the baby chicks that they can trust people.
