New coaches announced for Cordova, Folsom high football programs
The Folsom Cordova Board of Education on Thursday, March 14 announced the hiring of two new head varsity football coaches. Both were selected after gathering and listening to feedback from students, families, and employees.
Both have a reputation for building positive relationships with student athletes, supporting their academic and athletic success while nurturing character development on and off the field:
Jason Bumbaca, Cordova High School: Bumbaca, who will also teach physical education full-time, was selected for experience running a large program in ways that will build on the long-standing traditions of the Cordova High community.
Coach Bumbaca has coached for 12 years at the high school level, including six seasons at Santa Clara, four seasons at Del Mar and two seasons at Wilcox. He also is currently the athletic director at Del Mar and, in October, Coach Bumbaca was recognized by the San Francisco 49ers as the Wedemeyer Memorial Coach of the Week.
Paul Doherty, Folsom High School: Doherty was previously an assistant football coach at Folsom High and a physical education teacher in the District. Prior to coaching in Folsom, he spent three years at Whitney High School teaching and coaching.
Coach Doherty spent five years at Sacramento High School, making five playoff appearances and leading the school to its first playoff win in program history. He left Sac High with a record of 42-18 in five years.
