Folsom Cordova wins three national awards for public engagement
Folsom Cordova’s Communication and Community Engagement Office earned three awards from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) for recent projects that grew support for struggling readers, highlighted the successes of students with special needs, and fostered collaboration to improve school performance.
Two of the District’s three awards were in the Golden Achievement category, which recognizes exemplary work in all aspects of public relations, communication, marketing, and engagement. Folsom Cordova earned a third award in the Publications and Digital Media Awards category.

Golden Achievement: Education Town Halls: Inspiring Collective Action for Student Success: – Communication and Community Engagement Team
NSPRA honored Folsom Cordova’s series of Education Town Halls, which sought to engage families, students, employees, and community members in the creation of the District’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), the District’s guiding plan for closing achievement gaps among students living in poverty, learning English, and in the foster system.
Golden Achievement: Community Readers: Increasing Support for Struggling Students: Angela Griffin Ankhelyi, Community Engagement Specialist
This award recognized a strategic overhaul of the Community Readers Program, which has increased student reading scores, grown volunteer engagement, and inspired larger partnerships with local businesses and nonprofits.
Honorable Mention (Video produced in-house): Dragon Paradise & Canine Companions – Kathy Escobar, Multimedia Communication Specialist
This District-produced video reached more than 24,000 people and was viewed nearly 10,000 times across the country. In this video, students with special needs at Oak Chan Elementary School in Folsom are featured participating in the “Dragon Paradise Cafe,” the culmination of a weeks-long project to execute a fully catered lunch fundraiser for the Canine Companions for Independence program.
