Families learn together at Family Engagement Summer Academy
The 2018 Family Engagement Summer Academy's daytime theme was "Fun Food Science," and the evening, or twilight theme was "Maker Space."
The Academy was held at Williamson Elementary and is free for currently enrolled Folsom Cordova students in grades 1-6 and is a four week camp where families learn together through literacy and STEM activities, as well as educational games.
Some highlights from this year’s daytime camp session were when students and their families learned about bees and different types of honey from guest speaker, Rancho Cordova Bee Keeper Andy Kopac. Another interesting lesson was about insects that are considered cuisine and eaten around the world, taught by guest speaker , Dr. Jimmy Spitzer Biology a Professor at Sac State.
The evening, or twilight, session's theme is "Maker Space" where student families are engaged in technology innovation through coding, robotics and other technology.
These themed sessions were an amazing opportunity for student families to learn together.
