Vista students win award at National History Day competition
Vista del Lago seniors Lawrence Wong, Ayushi Mittal and Solomon Lo presented their documentary, The Cuban Missile Crisis: On the Brink of Nuclear War at the National History Day competition on June 12, at the University of Maryland, College Park.
More than 3,000 middle and high school students from across the country competed in National History. This year's theme for the competition was Conflict & Compromise in History.
Wong, Mittal and Lo took home a Chronicling American History Award for their documentary presentation. The students had a rich learning experience on their trip, taking in historic sites of Washington D.C.
Senior Sinaka Walimbe, was not able to attend the competition, but was part of making the documentary. The group won the California History Day Championship for the group documentary category, which allowed them to advance to the national competition.
