Folsom Cordova Unified School District is pleased to announce the employees of the year!

Teacher of the Year is Yvonne Thornton, from Cordova High School. Classified Staff of the Year is Teresa Olvera from Cordova Villa Elementary.  Learn more about these exemplary members of Team FCUSD below.

Teresa Olvera: FCUSD Classified Staff of the Year

Headshot of Teresa OlveraTeresa Olvera has worked at Cordova Villa for the past 15 years, working her way up from a part-time employee to a full-time night custodian. She has been instrumental in working with the custodial team to ensure a safe environment for students and staff during the pandemic. Olvera takes pride in her work and takes initiative to get things done. 

“Teresa is an invaluable part of our Cordova Villa family,” said Principal Christy Wilkerson. “She goes above and beyond for our students, teachers, and staff – we are extremely grateful to have her on our team!”

Because Olvera is active in the community and knows many of the Cordova Villa families personally, she is a positive presence to visitors on campus. In her spare time, she loves dancing and spending time with her family. Words used to describe Teresa are kind, thoughtful, and caring; she has a heart for Cordova Villa and it shows in her work

Yvonne Thornton: FCUSD Teacher of the Year

Headshot of Yvonne ThorntonA veteran educator, Yvonne Thornton joined the Cordova High team in 2018. When asked her thoughts on these past years, Thornton remarked “I have strived to provide every student on our campus high-quality and equitable educational opportunities. I do my own research and bring best practices to CHS to serve all students emotionally, behaviorally, and academically.  This year especially, I have modeled relationship building, social emotional learning design and implementation, and innovative methods for removing barriers to ensure students can access the curriculum. It is my mission to support my school and community in building positive and productive partnerships, but most of all, empowering our students to change their own narrative by believing in them, in order for them to believe in themselves.”
