Yvonne Thornton named Sacramento County Teacher of the Year 2021-22!
Congratulations to Cordova High teacher, Yvonne Thornton, on being selected as a Sacramento County Teacher of the Year! She is one of two teachers selected by the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) and will now advance to the State level.
The Sacramento County Teachers of the Year (TOY) Program aims to recognize excellence in teaching by highlighting exemplary educators in our public schools. Participating districts nominate individual teachers, who are then interviewed by a panel of education professionals, including previous Sacramento County Teachers of the Year. The two county winners are then eligible to participate in the statewide competition.
Thornton joined the Cordova High team in 2018 and currently teaches math, study skills, and agriculture chemistry. “This year especially, I have modeled relationship building, social emotional learning design and implementation, and innovative methods for removing barriers to ensure students can access the curriculum,” said Thornton. “It is my mission to support my school and community in building positive and productive partnerships, but most of all, empowering our students to change their own narrative by believing in them, in order for them to believe in themselves.”
Please join us in celebrating this incredible FCUSD educator!
