Students show off history prowess in creative displays of knowledge
If you peeked into classrooms at Mitchell Middle School the night of Jan. 26, you might have been treated to a spirited performance that taught you about the life of Walt Disney. You could have seen a sleek, student-built website that explored the “hidden legacy” if James A. Garfield, our nation’s 20th president. Or you might have watched enthralled as a middle schooler put on a one-man-show as Mahatma Gandhi.
That’s just a sampling of the creative student work on display during Folsom Cordova’s annual History Day event, where more than 300 students from a dozen schools presented 161 projects on the theme of “leadership and legacy.”
Student history buffs presented papers, performances, documentaries, websites, exhibits and more as they showcased their learning before educators and community members from across the District.
