Folsom, Calif. – Students jazzed up the weekend in Folsom with the 25th Annual Folsom Jazz Festival last weekend.
Hundreds of students of middle and high school from all over Northern California and Nevada participated in the Jazz Festival hosted at Folsom High School and Rolling Hills Church.
This was an all-day event beginning at 7:00 a.m. with the competitions lasting until 6:00 p.m. The Commanders Jazz Ensemble-Air Force Band of Golden West and the American River College Vocal Jazz Ensemble performed concerts throughout the competition. At 7:00 pm, awards were given out and Folsom High School got to perform alongside their special guests, Donny McCaslin and Bryan Lynch. The finals began shortly after that and lasted until about 10:00 pm.
Senior Aravind Giduturi told the Folsom Telegraph, “Whenever I play music, it’s like going to a different place for me,” Giduturi said. “I could have homework or stress at home or at school, but if I play music I forget about it, and it lets me fly free. I can create my own sound of music . . . it just makes me happy.”
Each school and student competed with extreme effort and dedication.
Folsom High School did an incredible job and they hope to compete again next year.
This event could not be possible without the help and support of many volunteers and local businesses. Many people, especially Folsom High School Music Director, Curtis Gaesser, put in a lot of time and effort to make sure the festival was a success. Their energy and hard work paid off with a successful and fun event.
