What is “social-emotional” learning? Latest newsletter has the facts
The Folsom Cordova community is hearing a lot about “social-emotional” learning - and the District has launched a newsletter to dig deeper into this crucial component to academic achievement!
Social-emotional learning - or SEL - is a process in which students apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to understand and manage emotions, achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Research shows that when all of these things increase, so does student achievement: higher test scores, better behavior, better instruction, and improved school climate.
In the first issue of the District’s newsletter, Folsom Cordova’s experts dig deeper into the explanation of SEL, offer self-care strategies (for children and adults), and provide a glimpse of the District’s SEL Action Plan.
