In an exciting time for the Folsom community, Measure G has been making significant progress. Many of the improvements have already been completed, while some are yet to begin.
Passed in November 2014, Measure G is a $195 million voter-approved bond initiative that funds the construction, renovation, and modernization of FCUSD schools in Folsom. The overall goal of Measure G is to provide a modern and safe classroom environment that will support academic instruction, while enhancing the overall community.
Some of Measure G’s biggest projects have either been recently completed or are well underway. Here are some highlights:
Vista del Lago: Vista received its own $12 million stadium through Measure G funds. Previous to the construction of their own stadium, Vista shared Prairie City Stadium with Folsom High School. Having their own stadium is an exciting improvement for the young school’s culture.
“It will be an incredible sense of pride for our school community” said Lori Emmington, Vista’s principal. Vista looks forward to being able to host many new events such as football games, the Crosstown Cup, and invitational track meets in the new stadium.
Folsom High School: FHS benefits from Measure G by receiving a new auxiliary gymnasium. This gym benefits the entire community as it offers more recreation area for youth teams to practice, along with the Folsom High sports teams as well.
Sutter Middle School: As one of the oldest schools in the District, this campus is in need of major modernization. A massive overhaul began in May 2016 and is expected to be finished in 2020. “On this site we really needed to have a major renovation, and we’ve gotten it” said Kevin Garmston, one of the school's Vice-Principals. For full details, see this project fact sheet.
Carl Sundahl Elementary School: Though this project is being completed in two phases, Carl Sundahl elementary has already received many improvements to its campus - take a step onto the campus and it already feels like a brand new school. And it still has more coming soon. Check out the project fact sheet, here.
Oak Chan Elementary School: With many old portables, Oak Chan Elementary School will be almost entirely renovated through Measure G. After completion of the project, Oak Chan will feature all permanent buildings. The school will also receive security upgrades, a new playground, renovated hardtop, and expansion/modernization of the administration and multipurpose buildings.
