Superintendent end of year message

Dear FCUSD Community,

As we move quickly to the end of the school year, I am filled with gratitude and admiration for our students, staff, and families, whose dedication to one another and to the mission of learning, has made educational excellence possible for our students. We have much to celebrate.

To the graduating class of 2022, you have remained committed to your studies, grown in ways you might never have imagined and persevered in times of challenge and great change. As you leave our schools and embark on new pathways as young adults, I hope you will remember with fondness the special people who’ve been alongside your journey, the lessons you’ve learned, the belief that you can achieve anything you set your mind to, and always maintain a lifelong love of learning. Congratulations graduates!

It is with pride that I commend our entire student body for all they have learned this year. Not just with their studies, but with each other as we reconnected this year in person to build positive relationships with one another. Our families are integral to student success, and I am grateful for our families. Your engagement is a cornerstone to your child’s educational journey and it is a joy and privilege to be educational partners with you.

I am especially grateful to the many employees of FCUSD for all the heartfelt dedication to students and each other during this year. I’m continually impressed and appreciative of the hard work and expertise of Team FCUSD. Over 2,200 individuals make up a vast collaborative of staff that includes, certificated, classified, and management: nurses, counselors, office workers, transportation staff, nutritional services, maintenance, custodial, fiscal services, instructional assistants, yard duties, mental health experts, behavioral experts, principals, assistant principals, and department leaders. It is the people who make FCUSD a great place to learn and I truly believe that the last year has brought us closer and stronger together.

As we’ve steadily moved to more typical school experiences, I am optimistic about what is in store for our students and community this summer and when we resume school next year.

Over the summer, there will be continued learning for students in our summer school programs, with expanded educational access to enriched instruction. There will also be moments to pause for a well-earned break from daily school schedules. Whether you are students, staff, or families, I encourage you to take time to recharge or seek summer experiences that will be rewarding.

Setting sights for the 2022-23 school year, we look forward to offering extended learning opportunities for students after school, through a variety of programs that will allow students to continue learning and connecting with their peers after the school day. We will continue our work toward educational equity, building school cultures of civility and inclusion where diversity is valued, and all students truly know they have a safe place to learn. This will be achieved by continuously examining and improving our practices, focusing on transformative social-emotional learning, and engaging in culturally responsive instruction. Together we can help equip our young scholars with tools for success, prosperity, and peace.

I am continually grateful to lead this dynamic school district. Whether you are a student, a family member, or part of the team, you inspire me every day. I wish you a wonderful summer.
