FCUSD community collaborates to strengthen school safety
Families, students, law enforcement, employees, and community members were invited to two large gatherings Monday, March 5 designed to dialogue over Folsom Cordova schools' existing safety measures and ways we can work together to improve our efforts.
The sessions were regularly scheduled meetings of the District's Safety Committee, a volunteer advisory group formed by Superintendent Sarah Koligian last fall - and comprised of administrators, law enforcement, school employees, parents, students, and Board of Education members - to provide routine review and improvement of school safety plans.
After the tragic events in Parkland, Florida, the Safety Committee opened up its meeting to the community at large and used the opportunity to evaluate all of the District's safety and security measures through a deeper lens. Participants explored existing practices related to prevention and planning; existing and potential security measures, communication; and response to threats.
The District collected input from roughly 100 stakeholders during separate morning and evening meetings. Folsom Cordova will compile, publish, and distribute comments and questions received, as well as post past agendas and meeting presentations to its website in the coming weeks.
The feedback will be used by District officials, law enforcement, and security experts to determine next steps - short-term actions and longer-term projects - which will be discussed at the Safety Committee's next meeting on May 10.
