CHS Geometry In Construction Sheds/Playhouses/Cottages For Sale
May 9, 2014
Rancho Cordova, Calif. – For Geometry in Construction students at Cordova High School, shed building is no problem. They proved this true at the 28th Annual Sacramento Regional Builders Exchange Design/Build Competition at Consumes River College.
Rockie Team Award Winners!
CHS was one of fifteen high schools to participate in this two-day competition, where students were given a certain amount of time to build a traditional, four wall shed. Two teams of students represented CHS and earned the “Rookie Team of the Year Award.” This was the first year the lancers participated in the competition.
Students prepared themselves for the competition all year in their Geometry in Construction class, taught by Jon Rossi and Monica Lobbestael. This course, which was introduced to CHS in 2012, allows students to learn math in a unique manner. Instead of placing them in a traditional classroom setting; students get to spend time outdoors and learn in a fun, interactive way.
Jon Rossi, CHS Geometry in Construction teacher said, “Geometry in Construction (GIC) is more than just Geometry, it's a hands-on discovery of math. Students are given the opportunity to apply what they are learning in Geometry to real life application.”
Funding for the course is naturally needed to supply students with tools for their projects. Next year, funding will come from money received from selling the sheds built throughout the 2013-2014 school year.
You can support a fantastic opportunity for our students, while giving yourself that extra room for your house that you always wanted at a discounted price.
If anyone is interested in purchasing a shed/cottage/playhouse, please contact Jon Rossi at jrossi@fcusd.org or Monica Lobbestael at mlobbest@fcusd.org
