Video and story by Reijer den Dulk, FCUSD Communication Internship Program
On March 30, nearly 300 FCUSD students collaborated on just under 200 projects at this year's annual STEM Expo, held at Folsom High. With projects encompassing myriad aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, FCUSD was fortunate to have judges from a variety of local companies: Aerojet Rocketdyne, Micron, SMUD, Capital Engineering Consultants Inc., Sierra Nevada Corp, Golden State Water Company, and Johnson Controls Inc.
"STEM is a program that each site has where we're cultivating students knowledge of science and their abilities to engage in science or hands on projects," explained Amy Kraft, a science teacher at Cordova High School and the lead teacher for secondary school science for the District.
Teams of students from grades 6-12 grade worked on projects involving biology and chemistry, to physics and engineering and everything in between.
Sanjana Bhise, a freshmen at Folsom High school said, "I think that it was a great learning experience that helped us understand our project's field of study which can help us make plans in the future."
