Blanche Sprentz "Wall of Fame" serves to inspire success
Story written by Crystal Linger, FCUSD Communication Internship Program
Accomplished alumni are often recognized by their high school alma mater - but Blanche Sprentz Elementary is showing its students how the earlier years in school can set them up for success.
Last year, Blanche Sprentz staff started what is now a growing "Wall of Fame" - displayed prominently in the school's front office - as a way to celebrate not only the achievements of their students but to show them what they're capable of. Photos and testimonials from alumni illustrate lasting lessons learned at Blanche Sprentz, and how teachers and staff shaped their character at a young age.
Those alumni include Ashley Colivas, now a deputy district attorney for El Dorado County. On the wall, she tells of how Blanche Sprentz teachers "...helped to mold and prepare me for all of the schooling and job experience that I've had over my young career."
Teachers Jeff Phillips and Jan Grateau started the project to serve as an inspiration and to build school pride - being proud of not only who you become, but taking pride in where you came from and how it has shaped you into the person you are today.
"We want people to know that Blanche Sprentz has groomed and produced some kids that have gone on to do great things," Phillips said. He said he hopes the wall sends the message to students: "This is what you're capable of doing, this is your potential too."
