Newsweek names Folsom High one of the nation’s top schools
Folsom High School has made Newsweek’s 2014 list of America’s Top High Schools, which highlights schools that excel at preparing students for college. The magazine also recognized Folsom High for its success in narrowing the achievement gap.
Folsom ranked No. 174 out of 500 schools that made the list. More than 14,000 schools across the country were considered for the rankings.
Newsweek says it has strengthened its methodology for ranking the nation’s high schools. The magazine created a College Readiness Score based on a variety of indicators, including enrollment and graduation rates, weighted SAT/ACT test scores, weighted Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate scores, counselor-to-student ratio and student attrition.
The magazine then identified schools in which economically disadvantaged students performed better than the state average for all students in reading and math.
