Partnership with Rancho Cordova PD: creating positive experiences for students and families
As we continue to celebrate the robust partnership we share with the Rancho Cordova Police Department, wanted to highlight two of the most recent examples of how they raise the bar when it comes to positive engagement with our students and families.
Kindergartners at Riverview STEM Academy won the chance to throw a birthday party for K9 Officer Zoe - who just turned three - thanks to the artistic talent of young student Pranav, who won the coloring contest that qualified the birthday celebration. Several RCPD officers joined as did Good Day Sacramento! You can watch the clip here. To see pictures of Zoe, her birthday party, festive students and lots of smiles, visit our Facebook gallery.
RCPD showed great compassion with they learned the Shaver family lost their home to a fire last month. With six children in our schools, including the youngest at Navigator Elementary, principal Larry Mahoney reached out and the community responded, including RCPD. Officers from RCPD Youth Services Unit came with backpacks and gift cards, to give the family a start as they rebuild. Thank you RCPD!
RCPD's Youth Services Unit plays an integral and important role in our schools. According to RCPD Sergeant Rich Merideth, "RCPD's Youth Services Unit further strengthens relationships with Rancho Cordova schools and with youth in our community through four programs: School Resource Officers, Adopt-a-School, Detection K9 and the Rancho Cordova Police Activities League. The Unit focuses on connecting with youth through daily positive interactions, mentoring, and having fun. The Unit also partners with all 19 public schools in Rancho Cordova to continue to improve safety for students, teachers and administrators through proactive visits, responding to calls for services or concerns, and providing training and education."
