FCUSD staff and students presented with awards and honors over summer
Over the summer many FCUSD staff were recognized for their significant leadership and contributions to student success. We couldn't be more proud. If you see them in the hallway, classroom or on campus, tell them congratulations!
Alicia Caddell, our Career and Technical Education Coordinator, was honored as an outstanding administrator of the year, and given the Family and Consumer Sciences Secondary Administration Award for her excellent leadership of CTE programs, which provide skill-based learning pathways to prepare students for college and career. See these opportunities on our CTE website! We are thrilled Alicia was recognized for this well-deserved award. Her leadership has made an impact and FCUSD CTE represented strongly this summer, with several accolades given to staff and students.
Dianne Goldman, teaches several classes at CHS in the CTE Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation pathway. This summer, she and her students participated in the annual FCCLA National Conference, held in Anaheim and cheered as some of these students brought home silver awards! FCCLA is a CTSO, (Career Technical Student Organization) that supports CTE Pathways. Goldman also received the 2019 Spirit of Advising Award national recognition! Students in Industrial Technology are introduced to the design and build processes, drafting, Auto-Cad, 3D printing, woodworking, sheet metal, welding/fabrication, as well as basic electricity, plumbing and carpentry. I view the class as "teaching skills to pay the bills," says Bias. We will keep watching as winners will be announced in October, with an opportunity to win up to $100,000 to enhance their school program.
Melissa Lawson, Folsom Middle School teacher was nominated for the Hannah E. MacGregor Teacher of the Year History Teacher Award. Nominated teachers are recognized for their commitment to engaging students in historical learning through innovative use of primary sources, implementation of active learning strategies to foster historical thinking skills and participation in the National History Day Contest. Although Lawson didn't take home the national prize, we are so proud she was nominated and could represent Folsom Cordova on a national stage.
