FMS teacher nominated for National History Day’s MacGregor Teaching Award
Folsom Middle School teacher Melissa Lawson was nominated for the Hannah E. MacGregor Teacher of the Year History Teacher Award. The MacGregor Teacher of the Year Award is sponsored by James F. Harris in honor of his sister and is awarded $5,000 to one middle school and one high school teacher annually.
Each of the 57 National History Day affiliates nominated one middle and high school teacher. Lawson represented the state of California in the junior division. Nominated teachers are recognized for their commitment to engaging students in historical learning through innovative use of primary sources, implementation of active learning strategies to foster historical thinking skills and participation in the National History Day Contest.
The two national winners were announced on June 13, National History Day in Washington D.C. Although Lawson didn’t take home the national prize,we are so proud she was nominated and could represent Folsom Cordova on a national stage.
