Oak Chan Receives Distinguished School Award
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Oak Chan and Russell Ranch Elementary
Schools are among the 424 schools that have been honored by the
Department of Education as California 2014 Distinguished Schools.
State
Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson recently announced
that 424 public elementary schools would be California Distinguished
Schools for their strong commitment and innovative approaches to
improving student academic achievement.
The two schools receiving the honor in the Folsom-Cordova District are Oak Chan, and Russell Ranch Elementaries.
“I
applaud these strong, thriving schools that are making such impressive
strides in preparing their students for continued success,” Torlakson
said. “This award is well-deserved by these school communities for
their enduring dedication to high standards, hard work, and unwavering
support.”
The California Distinguished Schools
Program directly focuses on California’s students and their entitlement
to an equitable and rigorous education. The California Distinguished
School Award identifies and honors those schools, for they have
demonstrated educational excellence for all students.
In
order to be invited to apply for Distinguished School honors, schools
must meet a variety of eligibility criteria including designated federal
and state accountability measures.
Applications
are then reviewed by the California Department of Education for
completeness by teams of educators from across the state under the
direction of the California Department of Education. Each school
receives a site visit by a team of educators to validate the full
implementation of the submitted practices. The site visits are conducted
as a collaborative effort between the CDE [California Department OF
Education] and county superintendents of schools.
