PHOTOS: Folsom, Vista students serve seniors for the holidays
Student government leaders from Folsom and Vista Del Lago high schools, as well as the Interact Club from Folsom Lake and Folsom high schools, recently delivered baskets filled with snacks, games, puzzles and personal needs items for the residents at Park Folsom Senior Retirement Community.
The event last month was organized by Powerhouse Ministries, a non-profit group that coordinates numerous activities to uplift the community. The baskets started as an idea to support seniors who can’t travel or might have few visitors during the holidays.

The event, in its third year, continues to grow: Two years ago, students collected 66 baskets for the seniors, and last year they collected 141. This year they collected 232 baskets.
“This year we worked through our advisory and clubs to collect our senior baskets. We took our student government class on a field trip to the senior center so we could deliver the baskets,” says Ryan Alvarado, Vista Del Lago’s ASB Vice President.
At Folsom High, Student Government made baskets as well as the clubs on campus. Isabel Bacerra, the ASB President said that “with our baskets, (recipients) have a chance to talk with and get to know local students who deliver them. They also get a gift for the holidays which they might not have gotten.”
