ATTENDANCE DURING DISTANCE LEARNING

Reporting Daily Absences

Every day teachers will take Distance Learning attendance. If your student does not log in to their Microsoft Teams or Zoom morning meeting and does not submit synchronous or asynchronous assignments through SeeSaw or Google Classroom they will be marked as absent (DLA – Distance Learning Absent) for the day.

Please contact the Mather Heights office each and every day your student is absent from school (unable to participate in Distance Learning activities) so that attendance can be accurately recorded in PowerSchool. To report an absence, call 916-294-9440 and press 1 for the attendance line. When leaving your message, please state:

  • Student's first and last name
  • Teacher's name
  • Date(s) of absence
  • Reason for absence (technical issues, illness, doctor/dentist appointment, out of town, etc.)
  • Your name and relationship to the student

Emailing your teacher about an absence is an appreciated courtesy but does not ensure that the absence will be logged properly by the school clerk.

Each student is allowed 10 days of parent verified absence due to medical reasons per school year (IPV; Ill-Parent Verified). Once a student reaches 10 days of IPV absences, you will be required to provide a doctor's note to clear all medically related absences thereafter. For medical appointments, illness, or surgery, please request a note from your doctor listing the exact date(s) of the medically related absence(s). Medical verification notes can be submitted to the office in person or emailed to the school clerk, Leyla Metzger at lmetzger@fcusd.org.

Vacations are not excused absences. Absences due to reasons other than illness, medical appointment, religious holiday, funeral, or family emergency are considered unexcused and will generate truancy letters.
