FCUSD Health Education Parent Forums

Dear FCUSD Elementary School families:

Last school year the District provided information on the Health Education Framework that had recently been released by the California Department of Education, which included an outline of differences between the California Healthy Youth Act, the Health Framework, and our curriculum. We also sent out a district-wide survey so we could better learn what questions and concerns our families had, surrounding sexual education.

In an effort to continue a two-way conversation on this subject, we would like to invite you to attend a Health Education Parent Forum, taking place at your elementary school. For a list of schools and dates, please see the attached schedule or visit our website. If you are unable to make the date at your school site, you are welcome to join any Parent Forum taking place in the upcoming weeks.

Facilitators of the Parent Forums will be Jim Huber, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Kerri Kaye, Coordinator of Health Services, and Angela Griffin Ankhelyi, Community Engagement Specialist.

At the Parent Forum you will learn about the 5th grade curriculum Always Changing and Growing Up which we are currently using, and have an opportunity to share your feedback in a guided activity. This feedback will be used to recommend new curriculum to the Board of Education, which upon approval, would take effect in the 2020-21 school year.

We understand this is a sensitive and important topic for many. We and the District consider parents our partners in education, and we value your involvement and input. If you have questions in advance, please reach out to us or your student’s principal or teacher. You can also stay informed by visiting the District’s website www.fcusd.org/healthframework.

Thank you,

Jim Huber, Ed. D. jhuber@fcusd.org

Kerri Kaye, RN, BSN, MSN kkaye@fcusd.org

Angela Griffin Ankhelyi agriffin@fcusd.org
