The After-School Education and Safety Program (ASES) is funded by a grant from the State of California. We serve the following sites:

Cordova Gardens Elementary Cordova Meadows Elementary Cordova Villa Elementary
Peter J. Shields Elementary Rancho Cordova Elementary Williamson Elementary
White Rock Elementary              Mills               Middle

    W.E. Mitchell   Middle

PROGRAM ELEMENTS
The ASES program consists of three components: 1) academic, 2) academic enrichment, and 3) recreational. The education component consists of a curriculum that complements the school's academic program. The enrichment component includes STEAM activities. The recreational component comprises the SPARK curriculum and additional resources.

ADMISSION
Admission to the Folsom Cordova Unified School District's ASES Program is based upon parental commitment to the program requirements. Students will be invited to join the ASES program as spaces become available.

FULL TIME ENROLLMENT
Students should attend ASES daily. However, if they are absent from school, students may not attend that day. Excessive absences from ASES may result in students being dropped from the after-school program. The grant's intent is for elementary students to attend ASES for 3 hours per day, and Middle School students for 2 hours a day.

LATE-EARLY PICK-UPS
ASES is funded by a state grant that is meant to serve students who most need this after-school program. Therefore, excessive requests for early release for other activities may lead to the student being dropped from the ASES Program. Students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m.  Repeated late pick-ups may result in your student losing their spot in ASES.

PARALLEL PROGRAMS
Within certain limits and with prior approval, students may be excused from ASES to participate in other activities, such as team sports, church, or Scouts. Parents must give a completed Parallel Program Request Form to the ASES Associate at least five days before the start of the Parallel Program for approval to miss ASES for this purpose. For the least amount of disruptions, Elementary students with pre-approved Parallel Program forms, medical appointments, or special occasions should be picked up from ASES between Check-in and 3:00 pm or 4:30 - 4:45 pm. Middle school students from check-in to 3:15 or 3:30 - 4:45 pm.

If you have a family emergency and must pick up your student at a non-approved time, please call our program office so we can alert the ASES staff.

STUDENT PICK UP AND DISMISSAL
Our staff signs students into ASES  after school. Our program closes at 6:00 pm sharp. Students must be signed out by an adult at least 16 years old, who is listed on the enrollment form. An adult who is unfamiliar to the ASES staff will be asked to show identification.

If your child is not picked up by 6:00 p.m., and we have been unable to contact anyone on the emergency form, we may contact law enforcement.

For safety reasons, students should always check into the ASES Program directly after school.

WALKERS
These are students who can walk home alone safely. They are released at 5:30 p.m. and must walk straight home. During daylight saving time, walkers are released at 4:30 p.m. The first day following spring break or when daylight savings time ends, walkers are again released at 5:30 p.m. Bike/scooter/skateboard, etc. riders must wear a helmet. FCUSD and ELO-P are not responsible for your students' bikes, scooters, skateboards, or any other mode of transportation. The parent and student are responsible for the risks of the students and the safety of the students once they sign out of the program. Signing a student up to be a walker mandates that the student will walk every day. There are no one-day walker options available. There must be a completed form on file before your child can begin walking. If a parent wishes to pick the child up from the program, they must do so before the walker release time. FCUSD and ELO-P are not liable for any incidents or accidents in connection with the students' travel and safety to and from the program.

ILLNESSES
If your child appears sick or complains of sickness while participating in the program, the staff will notify the parent/guardian immediately. Staff will ask you to pick up your child from the program to prevent the risk of infection. The program is not equipped to care for sick children.

MEDICAL & EMERGENCY INFORMATION
The emergency contact information you have completed is extremely important. Please be sure to notify the staff of any changes in your child's medical needs, as well as any changes that might occur to your home and work numbers, and the emergency contact numbers you have supplied.

INJURIES
If your child is injured, the program staff will take whatever steps may be necessary to ensure that your child receives emergency medical care.  This can include, but is not limited to, administering emergency first aid or CPR, attempting to contact you or your emergency contacts, calling an ambulance or paramedic, calling your family doctor, and/or accompanying the child to an emergency hospital.

BEHAVIOR

COMMUNICATION
We support and encourage open communication. If, at any time, you have questions or concerns, please make an appointment to talk with the ASES Associate and /or ASES Supervisor.

CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (CQI) OVERVIEW & SURVEY RESULTS
In an effort to ensure FCUSD is providing students and families of the afterschool program with quality service, we have asked our families for some feedback. This process is centered around the Quality Standards for Expanded Learning. During this process, we received feedback about how the afterschool program supports the Quality Standards for Expanded Learning Programs to assist in improving our programs.  Please review the analysis of the results here.
