Welcome to Special Education
Folsom Cordova Unified School District is a single-district Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). As such, we write and implement our own local plan and we are responsible for our own policies, procedures, and programs. We serve over 3,000 students in a variety of programs from infancy through age 22. These students receive specialized academic instruction and related services designated to meet their special education needs, as recommended in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special Education services are provided only after all the resources of the general education program have been considered and utilized.
We employ over 700 special education teachers, specialists, instructional aides, other classified staff, and related service providers. Special education programs and services are provided at each of our 36 schools in the District. Folsom Cordova school principals receive training in special education. In addition, the District employs seven program specialists, two program coordinators, two special education directors to coordinate the programs.
