Welcome to Special Education!

Vision Statement: An inclusive community is one where all thrive through access to an intentionally welcoming environment where diversity and learning differences are valued.

Mission Statement: FCUSD is committed to providing excellence in educational programs that carry high expectations for each student's success. In collaboration with our community, the mission of FCUSD is to ensure all students demonstrate high levels of learning through our commitment to continuous cycles of improvement, transformative social emotional learning, and engaging, culturally responsive instruction.

Folsom Cordova Unified School District is a single-district Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). As such, we develop and implement our own local plan and are responsible for creating policies, procedures, and programs that reflect the needs of our students.

We serve over 3,200 students, ranging from infancy through age 22, in a variety of programs designed to meet their unique needs. These students receive specialized academic instruction and related services, tailored to support their educational goals as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special education is not a place or a label, but a service designed to provide the support and resources necessary for students to succeed in their learning environment. Importantly, all students, whether with disabilities or not, are first and foremost general education students, and special education services are provided to ensure they have equal opportunities to succeed alongside their peers.

Our dedicated team includes over 700 special education teachers, specialists, paraeducators, classified staff, and related service providers. Special education programs and services are available at all 36 schools within the District.

To ensure effective support for all students, our staff receive training in special education practices. Additionally, the District employs eight program specialists, three program coordinators, and two special education directors to coordinate and oversee the programs and services.
