Advocacy

FYS provides a voice and support for foster youth, ensuring their needs are represented at school and within the community. FYS advocates for equitable access to education, working closely with school staff, caregivers, and other service providers to address challenges, navigate educational barriers, and secure the resources and accommodations foster youth need to thrive academically and personally.

Case Management

FYS provides individualized case management to ensure foster youth receive the support they need to succeed. Our case managers collaborate closely with students, caregivers, school staff, and community partners to address a range of needs, including academic performance, attendance, behavior, and overall well-being. They attend attendance intervention meetings and other key school meetings to advocate for the student, help develop tailored plans, and ensure that necessary resources are in place.

Enrollment Support

FYS provides comprehensive enrollment support to ensure a smooth transition for foster youth between schools. Our team assists with immediate enrollment and the timely transfer of school records, working closely with previous schools, current schools, social workers, caregivers, and counselors. We review student transcripts to ensure full and partial credits are awarded, and we assess eligibility for graduation exemptions to help foster youth stay on track for academic success. FYS ensures that foster youth experience minimal disruption in their education and receive the support they need for a seamless transition.

Academic Enrichment 

FYS offers weekly personalized academic support to FCUSD students in foster care. Priority is given to students who are performing below grade level or who lack access to other tutoring resources.
