McKinney-Vento Program: Helping Homeless Students Succeed

The McKinney-Vento program is here to provide essential support for students who lack a stable place to live. If you're facing uncertain housing situations, we're here to help you continue your education and thrive in school.

Who is Eligible?

Students who don't have a consistent, secure place to stay are considered to be living in transition. This includes children and young people, who are:

  • Sharing living space with another family
  • Staying in a shelter, motel, or hotel
  • Living in transitional housing or a trailer park
  • Camping or staying in makeshift arrangements
  • In a place not meant for living, like a car or abandoned building

Your Rights as a Student

We want to make sure that your education is not disrupted by your housing situation. Here are your rights under the McKinney-Vento program:

  • Immediate Enrollment: You have the right to enroll in school right away, even if you don't have all the required documents.

  • School of Origin: You can continue attending the school you were going to, even if you change your living situation.

  • Transportation: We provide transportation to make sure you can get to school, even if you're in transition.

  • Homeless Liaison: Our dedicated liaison is here to support you, answer questions, and help you access the resources you need.

  • No Barriers: We'll remove any obstacles that might get in the way of your education, including enrollment, participation in activities, and more.

  • Enrollment Documents: You don't need to worry about having all the typical documents, like proof of residence, immunization records, or school records.

  • Continued Support: If you find permanent housing during the school year, you'll still be eligible for support until the end of that year.

We're Here for You

In the McKinney-Vento program, we're dedicated to making sure you have the opportunity to succeed in school, no matter your housing situation. Our goal is to provide the support and resources you need to excel in your education and build a bright future. If you have any questions or need assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to us. Your education matters, and we're here to help every step of the way.
