Welcome to GATE!
Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) is a district program with a focus on the identification of students who who show the unique traits of giftedness (grades 3-5 elementary schools) and meet their needs by utilizing our curriculum resources and instructional strategies that ensure depth and complexity that will engage student learning, creating 21st century thinkers. We have teachers who are trained in strategies of depth and complexity at each of our elementary schools.
What We Do: Testing
Each fall, our testing department will test all current 3rd grade students as well as those who are new to district in grades 4 & 5. The testing department will send all communications to your child's school site to share with you. For more details, click the "GATE Identification Button" below.
PLEASE NOTE: GATE testing is seperate from Academy Schools. If you have questions about the Riverview STEM Academy or the Academy for Advanced Learning at Theodore Judah Elementary, please contact those schools directly.
What We Do: Classroom
We follow the Cluster Model at each of our elementary schools where GATE students are enrolled in our general education classrooms with their same grade peers. These classrooms offer a variety of teaching strategies to serve all students encouraging productive struggle and thinking. Our teachers have training in differentiated instruction based on current research to meet the needs of all students, including the needs of our high-achieving students. Within the Cluster Model, students work throughout the school year in multiple settings, such as: small group, independent, and whole class groupings as determined by the classroom teacher.
