    Description:

    The relationship between families and schools is a foundational relationship that can last for decades. In long term relationships, different approaches to communication and our unspoken perceptions can lead to friction. However, when we understand each other through the friction, we can create a stronger bond. Jason Harper will define conflict, explain the different forms it can take and provide a new perspective on how conflict makes us better. Listening to Understand and using questions to clarify understanding Learn how to listen to understand; recognize when emotions are high and how to clarify what you hear to gain understanding. Working Together: Tips and Tools for Having a Positive and Collaborative IEP Team. Learn important skills and strategies to help make IEP meetings more collaborative and successful.

  • Folsom Cordova Unified School District's Special Education Department invites you to our SELPA and Community Advisory Committee virtual presentation on Visible & Invisible Differences: Promoting Kindness, Empathy, Inclusion and Disability Awareness.

    Our speaker, Sam Drazin, is a nationally recognized educator, and the founder and executive director of Changing Perspectives. Please join the Folsom Cordova Unified School District SELPA and Mr. Drazin for an inspiring discussion on disability awareness at 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 on Zoom. 

    We will also present a series of trainings this year for families, including a full-day conference on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Welcome to Special Education

    Folsom Cordova Unified School District is a single-district Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA).  As such, we write and implement our own local plan and we are responsible for our own policies, procedures, and programs.  We serve over 2,800 students in a variety of programs from infancy through age 22. These students receive specialized academic instruction and related services designated to meet their special education needs, as recommended in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).  Special Education services are provided only after all the resources of the general education program have been considered and utilized.

     
    We employ over 500 special education teachers, specialists, instructional aides, other classified staff, and related service providers. Special education programs and services are provided at each of our 35 schools in the District.
     
    Folsom Cordova school principals receive training in special education.  In addition, the District employs six program specialists, two program coordinators, one special education director to coordinate the program.
