Reporting Daily Absences
One of the most successful elements of learning is regular, on-time attendance at school.
To report an absence, please complete this form (click here). Completing this form takes the place of calling the school. Please do not call if you completed the form.
To call in an absence, please contact the office at 916-294-9175 and press 1 for the attendance line. When leaving your message, please state:
- student's first and last name
- teacher's name
- date of absence
- reason for absence (illness, doctor/dentist appointment, funeral, out of town, etc.)
- your name and relationship to the student
If a student is absent due to illness, they must be symptom-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
Each student is allowed 10 days of parent verified absence due to medical reasons (IPV; Ill-Parent Verified). Once a student reaches 10 days of IPV absences, a doctor's note will be required to clear all medically related absences thereafter. For medical appointments, illness, or surgery, please request a note from your child's doctor listing the exact date(s) of the medically-related absence(s).
Vacations are not excused absences. Absences due to reasons other than illness, medical appointment, religious holiday, funeral, or family emergency approved by the principal are considered unexcused and will generate truancy letters.
Independent Study Agreements
Please plan vacations and family trips during school holidays. Pulling students out of school causes disruption to their learning and can be very challenging for our staff.
If your student will be absent from school for a period of 3-14 consecutive school days due to travel or another reason, please contact the Theodore Judah office at least 10 school days prior to the leave of absence to request an Independent Study Agreement.
Assigned Independent Study work must be turned in upon the student’s scheduled return to school. Independent Study work not turned in on the student’s scheduled day back will void the agreement, resulting in no attendance credit. Partially completed work turned in on time will result in partial attendance credit.
Please call or visit the school office for more information about Independent Study Agreements.
Remember, you must contact the school office to request an Independent Study Agreement at least 10 school days prior to your student's planned leave of absence.
Quarantine Independent Study Agreements
If your student is advised to quarantine, their teacher and the Theodore Judah office staff will work with you to set up a Quarantine Independent Study Agreement.
Assigned Quarantine Independent Study work must be turned in upon the student’s scheduled return to school. Quarantine Independent Study work not turned in on the student’s scheduled day back will void the agreement, resulting in no attendance credit. Partially completed work turned in on time will result in partial attendance credit.
Please call the school office for more information about Quarantine Independent Study Agreements.
