The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Department is excited to share their first SEL Newsletter entitled: Climate, Culture & Connectedness! In this first issue we offer a definition of SEL and bit of research on its benefits, some self-care strategies and reminders, and a quick look at the SEL Action Plan (it will be added to the SEL webpage soon!).
The purpose of the newsletter is to provide updates, strategies, resources and research about FCUSD’s SEL work happening across the district (several links will be included in each article). We hope that this will be one way to keep all of our efforts connected and ensure that everyone in our system has the opportunity to learn more about the exciting work underway.
Here’s a preview of what some of the content you can expect in future issues:
- February: Research on the power of emotions; intro to our MTSS framework; spotlight on the peace corners strategy
- March: Research on the connection between SEL and academic learning; overview of CHKS survey data; spotlight on Second Step
- April: Research on anxiety and stress; introduction to mindfulness and Mind Yeti
- May: Research on reflection and gratitude; report out on SEL pilot strategies happening at sites; looking ahead to 2020-21.
