Hola! Welcome to the webpage for Señorita Baker's Spanish 1 & 2 classes. I've been teaching high school Spanish since 2010, and I'm excited to get to know the Folsom community this year. I was born and raised in Southern California, but I've also lived in North Lake Tahoe and Southern Spain. I love to travel to Spanish speaking countries during the summer months, and I also enjoy sharing stories about my adventures with my students. Being bilingual is a valuable life skill and I'm passionate about helping my students achieve their language goals.
I conpleted my formal education at several public California universities. I earned a B.A in Political Science from UCSD in 2004, and also completed one year of study abroad at the University of Granada, Spain. Upon deciding to become a teacher, I enrolled at Cal State University, Fullerton to participate in the credential program and earned my Single Subject Credential in Spanish. During my first few years of full time teaching, I went back to CSUF to obtain a Master's of Science in Education, with an emphasis in Educational Technology.
When I'm not in the classroom I enjoy being outdoors and traveling during the summer months. Some of my hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, and surfing. One of my favorite places to vacation is the Yucatan Peninsula of Southern México. I've also spent time in Argentina and El Salvador. Exploring new places has taught me many valuable life skills that could not be learned in the classroom, and I feel that these experiences have greatly influenced my philosophy toward life.
