♫ Welcome to the FCUSD Elementary Music Program! ♫
About me: My name is Miss Kurek. I graduated from the University of the Pacific with a BM in Music Education and my single subject teaching credential in Music. Violin was my primary instrument, though I developed a passion for singing while in school as well. I have taught privately and have also been a general music teacher with a program in Stockton called "Harmony Stockton." In the summers I teach violin at La Honda Music Camp in the bay area. E-mail is the best way to reach me, as I am at several schools each week. You can also leave notes at the front office of your child's school and request that they be put in the music teacher's box, if e-mail is not an option. This will be my first year teaching professionally, and I am so excited to kick off my career in such a VAPA supportive district.
About the program: Fourth and Fifth graders are lucky to have music as a part of the elementary curriculum. This means that music is part of their regular school day, two times a week. Their classroom teachers will have a prep period during music classes, meaning that students will not have to miss any instruction to participate in the music program. Many studies have shown music to be a critical part of child development, and link music to future success in math and logical reasoning ability. Aside from the academic benefits though, music is a critical part of helping children grow up to be respectful, collaborative, productive and well-adjusted adults. Our ability to create art is part of what makes us human, and it makes me so happy that I will have the opportunity to create art with your student(s)! I look forward to a happy and musical school year!
