Dear Parents,
Things are moving along swiftly in 5th grade. We are finishing up our 5th week of school and have a host of exciting things in store for the rest of the trimester.
In ELA, we have started our first unit of the Benchmark reading program. The 5th graders have been reading about the creation of the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act. In math, students are learning about place value, decimals and rounding decimals. Soon they will be adding and subtracting them.
Please be sure that your student remembers their instruments on Monday and Wednesday. Bringing their instruments is a vital part of their grade. Also, please don’t forget to ask to see your student’s homework each night to verify completion. If you find that your child is struggling, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. Also, please sign and send in any income forms or library contracts that your child may still have.
Also, this Friday will be our final trip to Starbase. Your student should have brought home an invitation to their rocket launch. The launch will take place at 12:30 pm. All students will ride the bus home from Starbase and be dismissed from the Cordova Villa campus. Don’t forget to check the “Dates to Remember” section of the newsletter for upcoming events and times. Please feel free to e-mail, call or stop by if you have any questions. You may reach the 5th grade team by phone at 916-294-9125 or e-mail at mdevine@fcusd.org or jruinard@fcusd.org.
Sincerely,
Mr. Devine and Ms. Jones
