CYBHI (Children & Youth Behavioral Health Initiative)

The Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) is part of the Master Plan for Kids’ Mental Health, a historic investment by the State of California that takes a “whole child” approach to address the factors that contribute to the mental health and well-being of our children and youth.

Schoolbased mental health services increase access to prevention and early intervention services and remove barriers to student learning. FCUSD has provided school based mental health services for many years. The California Children and Youth and Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) now allows us to seek reimbursement for these services. California now requires most health care plans to reimburse public schools for providing certain mental health and emotional wellbeing supports with no copays or deductibles for parents/caregivers through CYBHI. In order to be reimbursed for the prevention and early intervention services that qualified staff provide, we ask families to provide their insurance information.

Agreeing to provide insurance information to your child’s school WILL NOT result in any costs for services being passed onto you or your family. These services are completely free and receiving these services in school WILL NOT affect your child’s coverage under the health plan or insurer. We will continue to seek parent/guardian consent for mental health services according to California Education Code requirements.

Parents/guardians can request mental health support at their child's school directly or by completing this request.  Have questions about CYBHI implementation in FCUSD? Please contact Kate Hazarian, Executive Director of Continuous Improvement and Student Services KHazarian@FCUSD.org.
