Board Briefs and Updates, May 17

Dear FCUSD Community,

Please read today’s Board Briefs and Updates.

FCUSD Communications

We strive to keep our FCUSD community informed with important news and celebrate the successes taking place on our campuses. As we near the end of the 2023-24 school year, and look towards the next school year, we want to hear from you on ways that are important for you to receive school and District news and information.

Please take a moment to complete a ThoughtExchange Communication Survey. Your feedback is anonymous, and you are encouraged to review other thoughts and rate them. Your participation will inform our upcoming communication methods and strategies.

Click here to participate in the 2023-24 FCUSD Communication Survey. This survey will stay open until the end of the day May 24, so please return often to review and rate thoughts.

Student Board members Van Merrill and Matthew Mellijor were recognized and thanked for their dedication and time spent in governance leadership over the past year. As leaders of the Student Advisory Board (SAB), they also presented an update on student leadership over the last year which you may see HERE. We look forward to the next Student Board members for 2024-25, to represent schools in Folsom and Rancho Cordova. They are…

Students who’ve achieved outstanding academic achievements were also honored. A detailed list may be found HERE and a picture of them HERE.

Spotlight on mental health support at FCUSD

One in six youth have a diagnosable mental health condition. We work to connect students with the wellness care they need, so they may thrive in school and reach their full potential.

Did you know that at FCUSD we have…

  • 16 Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs)
  • 5 Licensed Clinical Social Workers
  • 6 SCOE Mental Health Clinicians
  • 5-7 Master or Bachelor in Social Work Interns each year (16 to 24 hours per week)

Land Acknowledgement

“A Land Acknowledgment is a traditional custom that dates back centuries in many Native nations and communities. Today, land acknowledgments are used by Native Peoples and non-Natives to recognize Indigenous Peoples who are the original stewards of the lands on which we now live” (National Museum of the American Indian, 2024).

The Board adopted a Resolution Regarding the District’s Land Acknowledgment Statement which is attached.
