Oak Chan Elementary highlights
Oak Chan Elementary was highlighted in a special presentation on the many ways school activities and learning reinforce the District’s Four Priorities which are:
- Empower student growth and success
- Partner with students, family, and the community
- Foster a diverse, inclusive, and thriving workforce
- Optimize systems and optimize a culture of innovation

Recognition of Winter Sports Teams and Coaches
Students and coaches from middle and high schools who participated in winter sports were acknowledged and celebrated for their accomplishments. In addition to the many achievements, we had 58 student-athletes selected to be All-League! A special shout out to Lisa Finley, the Athletic Director at Folsom High, for being named Athletic Director of the Year by the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section.

Wrestling programs have been increasing at secondary schools for both boys and girls. Congratulations to Mitchell Middle School student Erica Banks who won the Middle School State Wrestling Championship!

School Facility Improvement District SFID#3 Advisory Committee Recommendations
At the January 8, 2024, Board of Education special study session on School Facility Improvement District SFID#3, the Board requested actions to address building new schools, tax impacts, community surveys, and funding methods. A committee was appointed by the Board, comprised of community members and students, and tasked with providing recommendations on school locations, funding distribution, and bonding methods.
On March 11, 2024, the committee discussed funding methods and favored not issuing the remaining Measure M funding currently available, due to high tax rates. They supported a districtwide bond for future needs and preferred facility models that would keep elementary schools under 800 students.
The committee reconvened on April 15th to finalize recommendations for equitable funding distribution and new school locations, to be presented at the May 2, 2024, Board meeting.

Safety Advisory Committee Update
Staff provided an update on FCUSD's comprehensive safety approach, addressing the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students. The District emphasizes safety for students and staff, as well as the many families and community members involved with our campuses, highlighting its ongoing commitment to prioritize safety as a necessary condition for effective learning.

UPDATES
2024-25 Early Release Thursdays
Starting in Fall 2024, Folsom Cordova Unified School District will align early release days for all schools to Thursdays. The decision to move to early-release Thursdays has been an ongoing conversation amongst the Principals and District Leadership.
All elementary schools in Folsom and all schools in Rancho Cordova are now on a Thursday early release schedule with the final four schools set to transition to this schedule in the fall of 2024; Folsom High School, Vista del Lago, Folsom Middle School, and Sutter Middle School.
This decision is based on several compelling reasons that aim to enhance student outcomes, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Please click HERE for detailed information.
Student Advisory Board Annual International Night, April 30
The Student Advisory Board (SAB) invites all FCUSD students and families to the Annual International Night, on Tuesday, April 30 at Cordova High School. Enjoy performances, food trucks, booth exhibits, and a fashion show! See the attached flyer for more information.

District Leaders recognized locally and at the state!
STATE WINNER
Folsom Middle School Principal, Terri Daniels, Ed. D was named the California Middle Grades Principal of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA). Read more HERE.
ACSA is the largest umbrella organization for school leaders in the United States, serving more than 17,000 California educators.
REGIONAL WINNERS
Several exemplary members of Folsom Cordova USD were also honored by ACSA Region 3.

Superintendent search
FCUSD has contracted with search firm McPherson & Jacobson, LLC as we seek the next Superintendent. They have conducted community surveys and are in the process of identifying candidates and interviews throughout April. Our goal is to have a Superintendent identified by May with a start date of July 1. Documents pertaining to the search may be found below and on our website at www.fcusd.org.
