FCUSD message of Safety measures at our schools

Dear FCUSD Community,

FCUSD staff and schools are ready to welcome students to warm and welcoming learning environments next Tuesday! 

We want our community to know that safety at FCUSD is our number one priority for students and staff and want to take this opportunity to share with you the many safety measures in place at our schools. 

The Coordinator of Safe Schools and the Community Safety Specialist positions were created in 2022 to oversee the many components that keep our schools safe places to learn and work. Over the last school year, a number of Board meetings and meetings with the Safety Advisory Committee took place to evaluate our current safety protocols and identify areas to increase safety at our campuses. As a result, FCUSD has worked diligently to improve safety for our students, staff, and campuses.

Below are some examples of current and recent improvements we have made to support students, staff, and families here at FCUSD:

  • Hired Coordinator of Safe Schools and Community Safety Specialist
  • Implemented WeTip, an anonymous 24-hour/day bullying & crime reporting system that can be found on all school websites and posted on signs throughout campuses.
  • Updated Board Policy 5144, focusing on “when to call law enforcement”
  • Updated Board Policy 1313, Civility and Mutual Respect
  • Ongoing collaboration with local law enforcement, including assigned School Resource Officers: two in Folsom and two in Rancho Cordova
  • Updated the Parent/Student handbook on safety protocols (pp.7 – 8), accessible on District and school websites
    • Including communication protocols in an emergency
  • Updated Classroom Emergency Procedures at a Glance, posted in classrooms
  • Created District Emergency Response: Action & Communication Steps, for school staff, posted at sites
  • Installed RAPTOR Check-in Systems at all Sites, for visitors coming to campus 
  • Added fencing to several campuses
    • Continuing to add fencing throughout this school year
  • Installed cameras at all schools
  • Full-day Professional Development and Safety training for administrators
  • Full-day Professional Development and Safety training for Campus Monitors and Yard Supervisors
    • Over 20 Campus Monitors at middle and high schools
    • Over 90 Yard Supervisors at elementary schools
  • Continuous on-site training for teachers and staff throughout the year
  • Staff training on de-escalation, best safety practices, and protocols for school sites – ongoing throughout the year
  • Catapult EMS Emergency Response training for staff – ongoing throughout the year
  • Increased the number of Mental Health Professionals throughout the District
  • Care Solace: Free service for the FCUSD community to connect to mental health care providers
  • Added Restorative Specialists at Mills, Mitchell, CHS, Sutter MS, and Kinney/Prospect 
  • Safety drills at all schools will be conducted throughout the year
  • Comprehensive Safe School Plan posted on each school's website 

Safety continues to be an ongoing process of examination and action steps and is under continual review. We are committed to addressing any and all new challenges as they arise to ensure our schools are safe places.
