Important! First week of school information

Dear FCUSD Families:

As we prepare to kick off another exciting academic year, we want to emphasize the vital importance of attending school from the very beginning and every school day. Mark your calendars, the first day of school is Tuesday, August 8!

Attendance at the start of the school year is especially important. It sets the tone for the rest of the school year, and your child's presence during these initial days is crucial for their academic progress and social integration. We kindly urge you to ensure your child's regular attendance the first week of school, August 8 to August 11. 

To further emphasize the significance of starting the school year on a positive note, we must inform you that attendance will be strictly monitored during these initial days. Many of our schools and grade levels are severely impacted.  

Families who do not have their children attend school from August 8 to August 10 risk being dropped from the school's enrollment on Friday, August 11 to allow a student who is on a current waiting list to attend their home boundary school. Should this happen and the student re-enrolls after the first week, FCUSD may offer a school location that can accommodate late enrollments if there is not a spot at your home boundary school.

We understand that the summer break has been a wonderful time for families to bond and recharge, but it is essential to establish consistent routines and educational habits at the outset of the instructional year. Attending school during these crucial days allows your child to:

  •  Build a Strong Foundation: The initial days often involve important introductions to teachers, classmates, and the learning environment. Missing these early connections may lead to feelings of disconnection later on. 
  • Get Acquainted with the Learning Environment: Teachers will establish academic expectations and discuss upcoming learning objectives. Attending from day one ensures that your child doesn't miss out on any critical information. 
  • Develop a Sense of Belonging: Feeling like a valued member of the school community is vital for a child's self-esteem and emotional well-being. Early participation helps foster this sense of belonging as students make friends and get to know their teacher.  
  • Adjust to School Routines: The start of the year is when students get accustomed to school routines, schedules, and rules. By attending consistently, your child can adapt smoothly to the academic setting. 

Our goal is to ensure that every child receives the best possible education and support throughout the year, and regular attendance is an integral part of this mission. By working together as a community, we can provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
