Middle School student leaders 

At last night’s Board Meeting, students from Sutter Middle School’s WEB Program (Where Everyone Belongs) shared engaging ways they connect new 6th-grade students to the Sutter school community, by helping them to get established and build relationships. WEB programs are at all FCUSD middle schools, building positive school culture and student leadership. Visit the Sutter MS student’s presentation HERE and see pictures of them on Twitter HERE. 

Blessings in a Backpack

Schools provide meals for students during the school week but not on the weekend when schools are closed. Local community leaders shared how they work on providing weekend meals for students in need through the local chapter of Blessings in a Backpack. Next Folsom elementary school named, Alder Creek Elementary

Our next elementary school will be built in Folsom, south of Hwy 50 in the Folsom Planning Area. Last night the Board chose the name to be Alder Creek Elementary. The new school will be geographically located by the Alder Creek Corridor, which was one of the earliest and longest-lasting gold mining districts in the state. This name is also an homage to the site of a former school, Alder Creek School, which was built in 1879 and existed for 52 years.

The naming process included the FCUSD School Naming Committee which developed a survey for public input. Top names from the public survey were brought to the Board for discussion and action. Board also recognized that due to the number of upcoming schools to be built and several appealing names from which to choose, there will be an opportunity to name more schools in the very near future, including the name William Leidesdorff which will be the name of a secondary school in the Folsom Ranch Planning Area.

Updates on school projects in Rancho Cordova

Bond measures passed in the City of Rancho Cordova have provided valuable resources and funding for facilities improvements, student resources and community involvement with our schools and programs. Below is a summary of outcomes.

Projects funded through Measures N and P

Dozens of facility remodels, upgrades and new builds have been completed as a result of funding from Measures N and P in Rancho Cordova, including ongoing maintenance projects. To learn more and see pictures of FCUSD facilities and improvements please visit this link HERE.

Projects funded through Measure H

Programs and equipment that support student learning have been supplemented through grants from the Rancho Cordova Community Enhancement and Investment Fund (CEIF) with funding from the Measure H Bond. Generous funding and community involvement has provided enhancements and additional opportunities for student learning, athletics, art, science, music, and field trips.
