FCUSD Board Briefs and Updates, Aug 31
August 31, 2022

Dear FCUSD Community,

Safety of our students and staff is our top priority. To address questions some may have regarding how we work to maintain safe and secure schools; below are strategies and tactics we use.

  • Direct communication with families from the site principal and District leaders in emergency and non-emergency situations
  • School Resource Officers* (Please see below for more information)
  • Internal emergency communication platform between staff and law enforcement
  • Cameras at majority of schools and all schools with a plan to have cameras installed this school year
  • All classroom doors are to remain locked during the school day
  • Campus monitors and/or yard supervisors at all sites
  • New positions added this year
    1. District Coordinator of Safe Schools
    2. Community Safety Specialist
  • School safety plans for each school site
  • Mental Health Professionals response team
  • Visitor and volunteer protocols for on-campus access
  • Threat assessment protocols
  • Emergency response drills including:
    1. Active shooter lockdowns
    2. Fire drills
    3. Evacuation drills

*FCUSD has a strong working relationship with our law enforcement partners for ongoing emergency needs and to provide School Resource Officers (SROs) from the City of Folsom Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. Please see highlights of how we work together below:

  • Two SRO's from Rancho Cordova PD are assigned to schools in Rancho Cordova for the 2022-23 school year.
  • Two SRO's from Folsom PD are assigned to schools in Folsom for the 2022-23 school year.
  • Increased communication between SRO's and FCUSD site administrators
  • SRO's will not be assigned a specific school(s), instead they will rove to all schools for check-ins and based on communicated needs from site administrators and safety concerns
  • SRO's wear body-worn cameras
  • Interactions involving a safety concern, with SRO's and students, are documented with additional details and data points that will include student demographic information, allowing for more robust tracking of interactions.

As always, if you have any specific questions regarding your student’s school, please reach out to the site directly.
