FCUSD Message to the Community, August 17
August 17, 2022

Dear FCUSD Community: Please see today’s message below.

Opening the 2022-23 school year!

School opened for the 2022-23 school year last week and we welcomed back our students with joy and excitement. This year started with fewer health restrictions, opportunities for volunteers to be on school sites, and more possibilities for field trips. Updated guidance from public health is being followed (please see below for more information) as we enter a new school year with more options for students and families, and familiar routines.

Changes in COVID monitoring this school year

Monitoring for symptoms

Whether a student has COVID or another illness, in most cases, the decision to stay home or come to school remains the same. It is symptoms that drive the decision. If your student is symptom-free, please send them to school.

We are asking families to monitor for symptoms and compare them with the Sacramento County Public Health (SCPH) Decision Tree. If your child has an alternative diagnosis, from their health care provider (for instance, allergies, flu, strep throat, etc.…), please work with your school’s nurse and health office.

Exposure notifications from your student’s school

Notices to parents/guardians will be sent out when a school or classroom reaches the threshold set by SCPH as outlined in their Decision Tree. Please click here to read.

 Increasing illegal opioid (Fentanyl) use

Risk-taking is a common adolescent developmental stage and we are concerned for the safety of youth in our community. As you may be aware, there is a national crisis involving Fentanyl use amongst young people. Unfortunately, Fentanyl is in our community.

Some quick facts on Fentanyl:

  • 98% of the most common street pills are fake
  • Of those, 98% contain Fentanyl
  • If it did not come from a pharmacy, consider the drug to be fake
  • Drug dealers often contact young people on social media and online platforms

Information on Fentanyl use can be found on this website, 1PillCanKillSac.

Starting tomorrow, in all middle schools and high schools in FCUSD, the two videos below will be shown to students. Please take a moment to preview these videos. It may invite an opportunity for conversations with your student after school.
