Dear FCUSD community:
The COVID-19 Dashboard has been updated. Please visit:
Public health approves our request to bring 6th grade back to campus
Late last night, we were granted approval by Sacramento County Public Health (SCPH) to bring 6th-grade students back to campus in a Hybrid model. All middle school families have been notified. Please see the attached letter from SCPH, giving us their approval.
In order to align with the grading periods, 6th-grade students at Folsom Middle and Sutter Middle will begin returning to campus tomorrow. Students at Mills Middle and W.E. Mitchell Middle will return on March 16. Parents, please check your inbox for details from your school.
We are excited and ready for all secondary students to come back safely to campus. For months we have worked hard to implement safety measures, provide training, and set up advanced technology in the classrooms. In fact earlier this week 8th-grade students gave 6th-grade students tours of their campus to show them around and make new friends. To see some pictures of what this looked like, head over to our Facebook post.
We also learned from SCPH yesterday, that they disapproved of our application to return all middle and high school students for in-person Hybrid instruction while in Purple Tier status. We have resubmitted the application to CDPH with additional rationale regarding our phased reopening. Please note, that whether the application is approved by CDPH or not, once our county enters the Red Tier, we will be able to reopen grades 7-12 for in-person Hybrid instruction.

We have been preparing for bringing our secondary students back to campus since the fall. All health and safety measures are in place. Knowing how important it is for students who are eager to be on campus, and in alignment with the grading periods, we will begin in-person Hybrid instruction tomorrow with a small group of 6th-grade students. Please keep reading for important dates and information.

We are grateful that SCPH has approved 6th-grade, in-person presence on campus. We also learned from SCPH yesterday, that they disapproved of our application to return all middle and high school students for in-person Hybrid instruction while in Purple Tier status. However, we are still actively pursuing the CDPH waiver as an appeal. Whether the CDPH application is approved or not, once our county enters the Red Tier, we will be able to reopen grades 7-12 for in-person Hybrid instruction.
FCUSD faculty, staff, and leadership are working diligently to make this and future transitions as smooth as possible, and everyone at the District appreciates the understanding and partnership of our parents as we shift schedules and daily activities.
