Update: Message to the FCUSD Community

Dear FCUSD Community: Today’s message includes COVID-19 Dashboard update information and the latest on high school athletics. Please keep reading.

COVID-19 Dashboard updates:

The COVID-19 Dashboard has been updated as of 1/6/21. Please visit www.fcusd.org/COVID

Please note, numbers this week are lower than the last update (12/16/20). This is due to schools and offices being closed for Winter Break, and all schools on a Distance Learning schedule this week. 

Question: How do we get our data for the COVID-19 Dashboard?

Answer: FCUSD nurses and health clerks document student COVID positive cases, while our Human Resources team documents staff COVID positive cases. In both instances, contact tracing ensues, which involves correspondence with all individuals who came into close contact with a COVID positive individual while on an FCUSD school or site. This process takes many hours, and sometimes days, to reach all interested parties, answer questions and concerns, and document. Numbers are then gathered and shared with the Communication and Community Engagement Department for posting on the COVID-19 Dashboard.

We are pleased to provide this transparent information, updated each Wednesday with accurate, district-wide numbers. If there are edits to the Dashboard, because of reporting that was delayed by the Wednesday deadline, they will be date-stamped and noted by end of that same week. Please visit this site often.

Status of High School sports:

We are eager to see our student-athletes back on the playing fields and courts, enjoying the sports they love, safely and as soon as possible. In order to achieve this, we are closely following the guidelines for youth athletics, set forth by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Below are upcoming important dates and current information.

January 11: FCUSD fall sports may resume outdoor conditioning, adhering to all safety protocols in place before Winter Break

  • Sports include Cross Country, Girls Volleyball and Football

January 19: FCUSD spring sports may begin outdoor conditioning, adhering to all safety protocols*

  • Sports include Golf, Tennis, Swimming, Track and Field, Baseball, Softball, Lacrosse, Boys Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Wrestling, and Competitive Sport Cheer

* Please note, each school and sport’s program will have specific details and availability based on a variety of resources and factors. Please connect with your coach directly if you have any questions.

January 25: CDPH is set to release guidelines on when and if competitions can resume. Determination of middle school sports will be predicated on these guidelines and more information will be forthcoming.

Safer Together / Stronger Together

We want our students back on campus and we want them to be safe. Please let’s work together to ensure this success. As stated on the CIF website:

“..we implore ALL Californians to wear a mask, practice social distancing, limit mixing between households, and practice all basic hygiene. This is the way to ensure the best chance for CIF competition to commence by January 25, as allowed by the guidance from the California Department of Public Health.”

COVID-19 Public Health Forum Online, Jan. 7

Sacramento County will hold an online Zoom Public Health Forum on COVID-19 for the community (and media) on Thursday, January 7, featuring a question and answer format with Public Health Officer Dr. Olivia Kasirye and Rachel Allen, Sacramento County Public Health Immunization Program Manager from 6:00-7:30 pm. This forum will specifically focus on questions the community has about the vaccine and the vaccination process.

This “community conversation” ​forum format allows the community to get updated on COVID-19 and have the opportunity to ask questions. Advanced registration is required and pre-registered individuals will be sent a link to the Zoom meeting. Register for the COVID-19 Public Health Forums.​

These forums are held every other week and the next forum will be January 21st, followed by February 4th.
