Update: Message to the FCUSD Community
January 13, 2021
Dear FCUSD Community: Please see today’s message which includes updates to the COVID-19 Dashboard.
COVID-19 Dashboard update
The COVID-19 Dashboard has been updated. Please visit: www.fcusd.org/COVID
As a reminder, the Dashboard displays numbers of COVID positive cases for students and staff with on-campus presence. As last week was in Distance Learning for students in elementary Hybrid, there were lower numbers of students and staff on campus.
COVID vaccines for educators
Educators have been prioritized to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by the Governor’s office. Information pertaining to vaccination for Sacramento County can be found here.
FCUSD is currently working directly with public health to map out an expedited plan for our staff to receive the vaccine. One advantage FCUSD has is that we qualify as a VFC (Vaccines for Children) provider, a designation from the CDC that allows us to store and administer vaccines for our students by our school nurses. This opens up possibilities for us to offer the vaccine to our employees once they are available.
Free COVID testing available
SCPH continues to offer free COVID testing for the community and has expanded locations and hours, including these two additional sites:
- TUESDAYS through SATURDAYS
- 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Indoor Location: Elk Grove, CA 95758 (near City of Elk Grove Council Chambers)
- MONDAYS through FRIDAYS
- 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Drive-Thru Location: Cal Expo - Gate 5, Sacramento, CA 95815 (near Business 80/Hwy 160)
Details and information for scheduling an appointment can be found by visiting their website here and on the attached flyer.
Students coming to campus must be self-screened at home
Elementary students and students with unique needs who are coming to campus for in-person instruction must be screened at home for COVID symptoms before arriving on campus.
We encourage all families to use the Frontline Screening tool, a quick online form that can be accessed on your computer or mobile device. Instructions for setting that up can be found on our website: www.fcusd.org/screening
Secondary schools and Governor’s directives
The District is encouraged by yesterday’s announcement that Sacramento County’s stay-at-home order has been lifted. Our county is currently in the Purple Tier.
On December 17, 2020, the Board approved the reopening of our middle and high schools to align with the CDPH directives for reopening schools, which includes a two-week waiting period once Sacramento County has been moved to Red Tier status.
For more information, please visit the CDPH website.
In order to advance to the next tier, and as stated on the CDPH website:
- A county must have been in the current tier for a minimum of three weeks.
- A county must meet criteria for the next less restrictive tier for both measures for the prior two consecutive weeks in order to progress to the next tier.
- In addition, counties must meet the health equity criteria to demonstrate the county’s ability to address the most impacted communities within a county.
Once we qualify in Red Tier status, the District is prepared to open our middle and high schools for in-person, Hybrid instruction, with safety measures and advanced technology in place.
Current events in Washington D.C.
The lawless actions at the United States Capitol last Wednesday, and the ensuing events, have provoked strong emotions of anger and anxiety amongst many staff and students. As we grapple as a nation and community with the discourse, we affirm that:
- Violence and hate are never solutions to anger
- All people deserve to be treated with fairness, respect, and dignity
- Our diversity is our strength
- Our students deserve safe environments for learning and expression
We want our FCUSD community to know that the District is committed to providing support for the physical and emotional wellness of our students and staff. Wellness resources to help parents, students and staff can be found on our website:: www.fcusd.org/Wellness
Mangini Ranch Elementary School opening
Our newest campus, Mangini Ranch Elementary School in Folsom is scheduled to open in August for the 2021-22 school year and will feature an innovative, two-story single building design with state-of-the-art collaborative spaces for students in grades K-5. We are in the process of evaluating candidates for the school’s principal and are excited to welcome current and new FCUSD students to Mangini Ranch Elementary next school year!
