Update: Message to FCUSD Secondary Families
February 25, 2021
Dear FCUSD secondary families:
We are eager to see our secondary students, safely back on campus in a Hybrid model as soon as possible and as allowed by public health. We also recognize the notice for when that will happen may come with a tight turnaround for families to make arrangements. Please know that we are committed to keeping you informed on a regular basis, and as soon as we have information to share, so you can have the information you need to plan. Please keep reading.
FCUSD and FCEA MOU agreement
FCUSD and the Folsom Cordova Education Association (FCEA) are pleased to announce a joint communication, attached here, regarding the MOU agreements that address the impacts and effects of secondary certificated staff returning to in-person hybrid instruction.
Public Health allowances for in-person Hybrid instruction
Pending public health approval, secondary students may be allowed to return to campus in the upcoming days. In yesterday’s message, we shared the status of our application process with public health.

We have submitted requests to public health that would:
- Option #1: Allow us to return 6th grade to campus in a Hybrid model per CDPH guidelines
- Option #2: Allow us to return all middle and high school students to campus in a Hybrid model, per the CDPH Specific Safety Application process
Grading periods (grading period dates can be viewed at the bottom of the Instructional Calendar)
In order to minimize instructional disruption, it is in the best interest of students to align the transition from full Distance Learning to Hybrid schedules with the grading periods.
Trimester grading period begins March 1
Folsom Middle School and Sutter Middle School are on the trimester grading cycle. Students at these schools could* begin Hybrid, on-campus presence as early as next week, Tuesday, March 2 in either of the options pending public health decisions.
- Option #1: 6th grade only*
- Option #2: 6th - 8th grades*
Semester grading period begins March 15
Mills Middle School, W.E. Mitchell Middle School, Folsom Community Charter 7 – 8, Folsom Lake High School, Kinney/Prospect 7 – 12, Walnutwood High School, Cordova High, Folsom High, and Vista del Lago are on the semester grading cycle. Students at these schools could* begin Hybrid, on-campus presence as early as Tuesday, March 16 in one of the options we are pursuing with public health.
- Option #1: 6th grade only*
- Option #2: 6th - 12th grades*
*Pending approval from public health
Please note: It is the District’s intention to bring back as many grades to campus as allowable by public health. If public health approves both options we are pursuing, the District will act on Option #2 to bring back grades 6 - 12 as soon as aligned with the above grading periods.
We realize waiting for more detailed information is difficult for families, students, and staff. Please know your FCUSD leadership team, teachers, and support staff have been working hard, planning for this transition. As soon as we are notified of a decision from public health, your District and school will communicate specifics directly to parents. Please continue to check your email.
